Guidance When You Need It Most

We bridge the gap between a family’s concern and a loved one’s acceptance of help.

Tikvah Center - Intervention Services

What are intervention services?

Watching a loved one struggle with addiction or mental health challenges is painful and isolating. You may feel helpless, unsure of what to say, or afraid that speaking up will push them further away. Our Intervention Services include professional assessments, family consultation, and logistical support to guide your loved one toward the treatment they need—with dignity, compassion, and clinical expertise.

An intervention is not just a single dramatic event; it is a carefully planned process. It involves a professional assessment of the individual’s situation, followed by a strategic consultation with the family to determine the best course of action.

Contrary to how it is often portrayed on television, an intervention does not always involve a "surprise" confrontation. It is often a structured, loving conversation mediated by a professional, or a series of guided steps designed to break through the cycle of denial and create a clear path to recovery.

The Benefits of Professional Intervention

Attempting to intervene alone can often lead to arguments, defensiveness, and broken trust. Bringing in a professional offers:

  • Emotional Safety: A neutral third party keeps the conversation focused and de-escalates conflict, ensuring emotions don't derail the goal.
  • Clinical Assessment: We don't just guess what’s wrong; we clinically assess the individual's needs to ensure they are matched with the right level of care (Detox, Residential, PHP, or IOP).
  • Logistical Relief: We handle the difficult work of verifying insurance, finding a bed, and arranging admission, so the family can focus on supporting their loved one.
  • Family Unity: Addiction fractures families. Our process helps the family get on the same page, setting healthy boundaries and presenting a united front.

How Does the Intervention Process Work?

Desinging the right Intervention for you

We view intervention as a partnership between our network of Jewish interventionists and your family.

1. Initial Consultation & Assessment

The process begins with a phone call. We listen to your concerns, gather history about your loved one’s substance use or mental health, and assess the severity of the situation. This helps us determine if an immediate intervention is necessary or if a different approach is better.

2. Strategy & Planning

If an intervention is recommended, we connect the family to the right interventionist on how to prepare. This includes:

  • Forming the intervention team (family, friends, Rabbis).
  • Scripting what will be said to avoid blame and shame.
  • Pre-arranging admission to a treatment center so there are no delays once the individual says "yes."
3. The Conversation

A trained clinician facilitates the conversation with your loved one. Whether this is a direct intervention or a "process" intervention (invitational), the goal is the same: to help the individual see the reality of their situation and accept the offer of treatment.

4. Assistance Accessing Services

Once the individual agrees to help, the interventionist immediately facilitate the transfer to treatment. Whether they come to our center or require a higher level of care (like medical detox) elsewhere, we coordinate the logistics to ensure a seamless handoff.

Is there a cost for the consultation?

We offer an initial phone assessment at no charge to help guide your family. If a full-scale intervention service (planning, travel, facilitation) is required, there may be associated fees, which we will discuss transparently upfront.

Do you only place people in your own facility?

Our priority is the individual's well-being. If our IOP or PHP is the right fit, we will admit them here. If they require medical detox or residential care first, we have a trusted network of partner facilities and will assist you in accessing those services.

What if they refuse help?

This is a common fear. However, our success rate is high because of the preparation involved. If a loved one refuses, we help the family implement the boundaries discussed during the planning phase. Often, the individual returns to accept help shortly after, once they realize the family holds firm to these new healthy boundaries.

Is this like what I see on TV?

Rarely. TV interventions are edited for drama. Our interventions are designed for dignity. While emotions can run high, our goal is a calm, loving, and organized environment where the individual feels supported, not attacked.

Do I need a referral to enter PHP?

While many clients come to us via referral from a detox center or therapist, you can also contact us directly. Our admissions team provides a free, confidential assessment to determine if PHP is the right level of care for your specific needs.

What is the difference between Residential Treatment and PHP?

The main difference is where you sleep. In Residential Treatment, you live at the facility 24/7. In PHP, you spend your days in treatment but sleep at home. PHP is often used as a "step-down" to help transition from Residential care back into the real world.

What is the difference between IOP and PHP?

A Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) is more intensive, often requiring 5 to 6 hours of treatment daily, five days a week. Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is less time-intensive (usually 9 hours per week) and is often the next step down after completing a PHP.

Do I have to be religious or Orthodox to attend?

No. Our center is a judgment-free zone open to Jews of all backgrounds—secular, reform, conservative, or orthodox—as well as non-Jewish individuals seeking high-quality care. We respect where you are in your spiritual journey.
