Addiction Services

Breaking the Cycle, Restoring the Soul

Addiction is not a failure of will, a lack of faith, or a moral defect. It is a complex, chronic medical condition that hijacks the brain’s reward system and disconnects individuals from their values, their families, and their true selves.

At The Tikvah Center, we provide comprehensive Addiction Services designed to treat the whole person: mind, body, and spirit. We combine evidence-based clinical science with the timeless wisdom of Jewish tradition to help you move from a place of dependency to a life of dignity and purpose.

Tikvah Center - Addiction Services

What are our Addiction Services?

Our Addiction Services program encompasses the treatment of Substance Use Disorders (SUD) and the underlying behavioral patterns that sustain them. We recognize that substance use is often a symptom of deeper pain, whether that be trauma, anxiety, depression, or a loss of spiritual connection.

We provide specialized care for a wide range of dependencies, including:

  • Alcohol Use Disorder
  • Opioid Addiction (Heroin, Fentanyl, Prescription Painkillers)
  • Benzodiazepine Dependence (Xanax, Klonopin, Valium)
  • Stimulant Addiction (Cocaine, Adderall, Methamphetamine)
  • Polysubstance Use (Using multiple substances simultaneously)

Our approach is compassionate and non-judgmental. We know that addiction thrives in secrecy and shame (busha). Our goal is to bring your struggle into the light where it can be healed.

How Does It Work?

We do not believe in a "one-size-fits-all" approach to addiction. Your recovery plan is built around your specific history, triggers, and goals.

1. Comprehensive Assessment

Upon admission, our clinical team conducts a deep-dive assessment to understand the severity of the addiction and any co-occurring mental health issues. We look at the "why" behind the use, not just the "what."

2. Evidence-Based Clinical Care

We utilize gold-standard therapies to rewire the brain and build coping mechanisms:

  • CBT & DBT: To change negative thought patterns and regulate emotions.
  • Relapse Prevention: Identifying triggers and creating a concrete plan for high-risk situations.
  • Trauma-Informed Care: Addressing the root causes that drive the need to self-medicate.
3. The Jewish Path to Sobriety

We help clients bridge the gap between recovery and their heritage.

  • Teshuva (Return): Reframing recovery not as "changing who you are," but as "returning to your true self."
  • 12-Steps & Torah: We illustrate how the principles of the 12 Steps align with Jewish ethical teachings (Mussar).

Will my community find out?

We understand the fear of stigma within close-knit communities. We operate with strict HIPAA confidentiality. Your presence here is private, and we will never disclose your status without your explicit written consent.

Do you treat gambling addiction?

Yes. We recognize that behavioral addictions (like gambling) often operate on the same neural pathways. We offer support for process addictions, often in conjunction with substance use treatment. Learn more about our work with behavior and process addictions.

Can I ever drink socially again?

For those with a diagnosed Substance Use Disorder, total abstinence is generally the safest and most effective path. The brain chemistry of an addicted individual reacts differently to substances. Our goal is to help you build a life so full and meaningful that you no longer feel the need to alter your state of mind.

Is addiction considered a sin in Judaism?

We view addiction through the lens of Pikuach Nefesh (saving a life). While the behaviors associated with active addiction can be destructive, the condition itself is an illness, not a sin. Seeking help is an act of courage and a fulfillment of the mitzvah to guard one's health (Shmirat HaGuf).

Do you offer detox?

No. We are a primary treatment facility (PHP/IOP/Outpatient). If you require medical detoxification to safely withdraw from alcohol or drugs, we will help you arrange admission to a trusted partner detox facility first. Once you are medically stable, you will transfer directly to us to begin the therapeutic work.

Do I have to be religious or Orthodox to attend?

No. Our center is a judgment-free zone open to Jews of all backgrounds—secular, reform, conservative, or orthodox—as well as non-Jewish individuals seeking high-quality care. We respect where you are in your spiritual journey.
