Target Audience: Mental Health Professionals

Format: Live/in-person

Coping With and Responding to Antisemitism in the Mental Health Field is a 2-hour, in-person training designed for mental health professionals who seek to better understand, recognize, and respond effectively to antisemitism in clinical, supervisory, educational, and organizational settings.

Developed from curriculum created during Dr. Rob Jury’s participation as an ISGAP–Oxford Summer Scholar in Residence at St. Catherine’s College, Oxford, this program integrates cognitive learning with simulation-based mastery learning and deliberate practice to build measurable, real-time competencies. The training explores theological, racialized, political, structural, and contemporary forms of antisemitism and examines the clinical and psychological impact on Jewish clients, clinicians, and communities.

Participants will first build foundational knowledge of antisemitism’s historical and contemporary expressions. The training then transitions into a structured deliberate-practice format, allowing clinicians to rehearse and refine core competencies such as emotional regulation, boundary maintenance, attunement, meaning-focused inquiry, and professionally grounded responses.

The skills-based portion of the workshop draws on three scenario clusters from the curriculum and presentation:

  • Responding to fears of political targeting
  • Responding to pressure to disclose political views about Israel or Gaza
  • Responding to antisemitic or hostile identity-based statements toward the therapist

Together, these scenario clusters support participants in developing practical, repeatable skills for navigating difficult clinical situations while maintaining the therapeutic frame, upholding ethical standards, and supporting the safety and dignity of Jewish clients and communities.

Mental health professionals will leave the training with increased confidence, deeper cultural understanding, and strengthened abilities to respond to antisemitism in ways that are clinically sound, culturally responsive, and grounded in professional ethics.

Program Learning Objectives

After completing this program, participants will be able to:

  • Identify theological, racialized, political, systemic, and contemporary forms of antisemitism encountered in mental-health practice.
  • Practice skills for responding to antisemitic statements, misinformation, or boundary violations in clinical or professional contexts, using principles of deliberate practice.
  • Apply emotional-regulation strategies and professional use-of-self when addressing antisemitism in real time.
  • Practice culturally responsive, ethically grounded interventions that maintain client safety and uphold professional standards.
